Ok, so I just have to do a little bragging on Gavin. When he was about 9 months I got a baby sign language book in hopes that I would teach him ALL these signs so he can communicate with me before talking. Well, although I haven't taught him all the signs he has really picked up on the few that I have been consistent with showing him. He will do 'eat', 'more' and 'all done'... notice how all these are associated with food...ha. We were at my friend Kelsey's seeing their new house and it ran past his dinner time when I noticed him walking around in the kitchen putting his fingers to his mouth, which is the sign for eat. Then last night I was amazed because we were on the way to my moms house and as usual I was chit chatting with him when I asked him if he was hungry and he looked at me and did the sign for food. I was just amazed that he was able to connect the dots like that. Aside from signing he is saying new words, sort of. His new favorite word is 'no'... probably because he hears it so much. If we ask him if he wants his diaper changed or if he wants to take a nap, he'll say 'no'. He doesn't always use it in the right context but when we ask him about a diaper change it's a more firm 'NO' so I know he's associating it sometimes. On the other hand I was rocking him the other night when he woke up in the middle of the night and he just kept saying soft little no's... no, no.... no, no, no... I just think he likes saying it. One last thing, Gavin loves his blankie, we often refer to him as Linus off of Charlie Brown. He will pull it through the slots on his crib then carry it to me so that I can drape it on my shoulder then he'll lay his head down, it's really quite cute. The other day he was carrying it around so I had to snap some pics... here they are.
